Reed Hobbs Armstrong

Reed Hobbs Armstrong passed peacefully to his final reward on Wednesday November 24, 2021 He was 89 years old.
Reed was born in Robin, Idaho to Curtis and Ada Grace Armstrong and spent his youth on the family farm. It was there that he learned a sense of joy from a task well accomplished as well as a strong work ethic; Both traits served him well his entire life. As a young man Reed was drafted to the US Army. He also was called to an LDS mission to the West Central States mission. He fulfilled both his Service to his Country and his Faith honorably and carried a deep love for both his entire life. Reed had a very strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He exemplified this in his everyday life. He loved, and gave freely of his time and talents for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings.
Reed had a quiet way about him but his actions spoke volumes to all he interacted with. He was seldom idle and could often be found shoveling all the walks in the neighborhood after a snowstorm or pitching in on a Service project someone had organized. He loved to grow a huge garden, much to his children's chagrin, and share the bounty with friends and co-workers alike. His Christmas tree shaped carrot cakes were a staple holiday Tradition both within and without his home and he literally gave away hundreds of them. Reed shared his beautiful talent of singing freely. Many people were surprised that Reed could sing. He sang for weddings and many funerals. He loved to sing. One of his favorite songs to sing was "O, My Father". He also loved to sing "That Wonderful Mother of Mine." He would sing it to his mother and mean it with all of his heart.
Reed worked as a bookkeeper for Zweigarts Meat Company for 14 years and when the Company was sold the balance sheet was off by .14 cents, the exact amount it had been off when he assumed the position. He was concise and factual with a strong sense of right and wrong. He went on to a nearly 30-year career with Union Pacific Railroad of which the latter two decades of took him to work in Omaha Nebraska. He lived across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa and found great joy in the friendships he built there.
In his latter years he moved to Las Vegas to be near his oldest Daughter Lori. Thanks to his youngest daughter Kristin being employed by Southwest Airlines and being in close proximity to a large airport, he was able to travel extensively. He also was infamous for not letting people know when he was visiting which led to great surprise on both sides sometimes.
He will be warmly greeted by his Father and Mother as well as his brothers Lyle and Max and Sister Gayle (Lloyd) Ferguson. He will be greatly missed by his brother Larry (MaryBeth) Armstrong his children Lori (Gilbert) Urrutia, Bryan (Tamarra) Armstrong, Gaylynn (Mike) Rosiewicz, Delayne Pringle, Kristin (Terence) Grillo as well as many grandkids.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 27, 2021 @ 10:00 am The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Lakes Ward 9825 W Desert Inn Rd Las Vegas, NV 89117 with interment at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery Boulder City, Nevada immediately following.
