REED A. HOOVER
“I have to say that although it broke my heart, I was, and still am, glad I was there.” -Markus Zusak
Reed A Hoover was a son, brother, father, father-in-law, grandfather, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew, and a friend. Born on September 18, 1952, Reed was the second child and only son to Mark and Carol Hoover of Orem, Utah. He had a wonderful, family-centered childhood. A few of his most cherished memories were of his time in Provo Canyon. From the east end at the Hoover Ranch all the way to the west end at Wicks Place and everywhere in between. He spent time with grandparents (the Hoovers and/or the Bartletts) cousins, and friends. As a teenager, Reed enjoyed boxing and actually battled his way to win The State Golden Glove Boxing Championship, for his weight division. He was also a talented skier, after high school, he became a member of the National Ski Patrol for Sundance where he cleared areas of avalanche threats, even surviving a few avalanches himself. He joined the Army in 1972. Stationed in Missouri for basic training. He was honorably discharged. After he began working in construction as a carpenter. He was a talented carpenter who did beautiful work. When he moved to Las Vegas Nevada, he ventured out on his own as a contractor.
Eventually, Reed landed a job at the Hilton Hotel where he worked for 30 years. All the while buying and flipping houses with friends. After retirement, he settled in the quiet little town of Pioche Nevada. He quickly joined the community and remained there until his death, early November of 2023.
Reed became a father in the late 1970s and again in the early 1980s. Ryan and Marci instantly became the greatest loves, and without a doubt, the most sincere blessings of his life. Whether times were smooth or rocky, he tried to remain consistent.
Reed had inherited love and charity from his mother. To him, friends were family and he loved to take care of his people. Rather it be with a helping hand or his famous margaritas, he was dependable. He inherited tolerance and loyalty from his father. His friends earned their way into his circle. Then stayed for life. Those friends are just as loyal to him. Our family wants to express that we can see that, we can feel that, and we are so grateful. You are indeed holding us together and helping us through this.
Reed had many hobbies beyond boxing, skiing, and carpentry. He was also a marathon runner earning many medals. He ran in numerous places across the country including the Boston Marathon and a marathon in Hawaii. He loved to travel, and although he never considered himself a biker, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Reed also enjoyed gardening, hunting, and cooking.
Reed leaves behind his two children. Ryan (Rachel) Hoover and Marci Hoover, grandson Mason, and sister Shirley (Kelly) Sanders. His parents Mark and Carol Hoover preceded him in death.
His infectious laugh, sense of adventure, and his undying devotion. His brutal honesty, loyalty, work ethic, and perfect timing. His attention to detail, his stoic bravery, his confidence, and even his hairstyle will be sorely missed. We mourn the special times that we had planned and cherish the memories that we have. We are so lucky that he was ours.
