Obituary

Richard Lee Fletcher, Sr. was born on December 19, 1943, in Gilbert, Louisiana, to the proud parents of Eugene Fletcher, Sr. and Virginia Fletcher. He was the third oldest of twelve children—eleven boys and one girl.

Richard attended Gilbert Elementary and Wisner-Gilbert High School. He united with New Macedonia Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. L.M. Majors. In 1956, at the age of twelve, Richard accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. He became a junior usher, joining his father as a doorkeeper. He also loved traditional gospel music and sang in a gospel quartet.

In 1963, Richard moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he united with Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. V.C.L. Coleman and continued his service as an usher. In 1965, he moved his membership to Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. T.C. Cole and the late Rev. Johnnie Richardson, Sr., where he faithfully continued serving as an usher.

On May 6, 1967, he married the love of his life, Beatrice Brown. From this divine union, they were blessed with one daughter, Loretta, and two sons, Richard Jr. and Christopher. Richard and Beatrice loved gardening, traveling, and taking their children on weekend car rides to broaden their horizons. Together, they were trailblazers for both their families, unselfishly helping many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews relocate from the South to Las Vegas. They were truly a power couple.

Richard’s love for cars began at a young age which led him to work as an auto mechanic for sixteen years. Because of his passion for cars and for serving people in the community, he was inspired to become an entrepreneur and open Fletcher’s Tune Up Shop in Las Vegas. He later joined Laborers’ Local 872, where he worked at the Nevada Test Site for 20 years and 3 months, retiring as a labor foreman.

After retirement, Richard continued to cherish time with his family, attending yard sales, fishing, hunting, and piddling around with his beloved cars. He enjoyed watching westerns so much that even when he was not watching them, he was thinking about them. He also loved collecting things. If you needed a tool, a car part, or just about anything else, he likely had it in his “collection.” Richard was naturally mechanically inclined and had a gift for fixing almost anything.

On June 6, 2026, the Lord called Brother Richard from labor to reward. His warm heart, boundless generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Fletcher, Sr. and Virginia Fletcher; his son, Richard Fletcher, Jr.; five brothers, Eugene Fletcher, Jr., Ageames Fletcher, Sr., David Fletcher, Sr., Freddie Fletcher, Sr., and William Fletcher, Sr.; and his sister, Linda Fletcher.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 59 years, Beatrice Fletcher; his daughter, Loretta Duhart; his sons, Christopher Fletcher, Sr. (Donsheka) and Richard “Big Rick” Fletcher (Hattie); three grandsons, Christopher Fletcher, Jr., Cameron Lee Fletcher, and Richard Eugene Gossett; two granddaughters, Tracy Nicole Fletcher and Breanna Joy Duhart; one great-granddaughter, Ka’Miya Lynn Graham; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
