Richard A Millick

Richard Airheart Millick, 83, of Henderson, Nevada, died on September 30, 2023 at Henderson Hospital after a short struggle with illness. He died much like he lived his long life: on his own terms.

Richard was born in Ely, Nevada in 1940 to Wesley and Martha Millick, who moved Richard down to Henderson after a serious bout of childhood pneumonia. Richard attended Basic High School and maintained life-long friendships with several childhood classmates. He briefly attended the University of Nevada, Reno, causing all kinds of (mostly good-natured) trouble before returning home to southern Nevada. After college, Richard worked diligently, participated in local politics, continued his avid car enthusiasm, and travelled extensively to places both foreign and domestic. He eventually met and married Mary Ruth Coen of Henderson, with whom he had two children, Nicole Martha Millick and John Airheart Millick. Richard also took in Trevor James Coen and raised him as a second son. Many years were spent at the family summer spot at Echo Bay, Lake Mead where phones were not allowed and Waylon Jennings could be heard on the sound system. Richard could be found on one of these lake Saturdays lounging in a folding chair, reading the Nifty Nickel and dreaming of his next classic car.

Richard was very fond of his grandchildren and never failed to remember birthdays and celebrate their milestones. Wesley Millick, Cora Swenberg and Jameson Baldwin are all lucky to have had such a proud grandpa in their lives and will remember him fondly. He also had a soft spot for his dogs over the years, mourning each passing as he would a family member. He joins Billy, Cocoa, Betty and others that went before him.

Richard will always be remembered for his fierce loyalty to family and his surprising sense of humor. He gave ridiculous nicknames to each member of the family, which are regularly and fondly used to this day no matter how old the family member has become. Although he was a complicated man, we will miss him terribly and he can never be replaced.

A memorial service will be on October 14, 2023 at Bunker's Eden Vale Mortuary 925 Las Vegas Blvd North, Las Vegas, NV 89101 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Richard’s name.
