Richard "Rick" Spica, of Las Vegas, passed away early morning Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, from cancer. Rick was born Dec. 10, 1949, to Joe and Mary Lou Spica in St. Louis, where he grew up and eventually attended Mississippi State University, earning a bachelor's degree in education. Upon graduating, he became a player and coach with the Professional Italian Baseball Association, winning the Italian National Championship and the European Cup. Rick moved to Las Vegas, in the late 70's and began his career bartending and retired from the Sands and Stardust Hotels. This is where he met Linda, who until the time before his passing, would tell his her daughter, Jessica that she was "the love of his life." Upon his birth, Rick was deemed "the favorite", much to the chagrin of his older firstborn siblings, Joann and Terry. His younger brothers, Gary, Dan and Kevin grew up in the shadow of their older "most humble" brother. His former wife, and dear friend, whom he was married to for 20 years, Linda, and stepdaughter, Jessica were constantly amazed and amused at his dry sense of humor. He was the most amazing father and raised Jessica since she was two years old. Nieces, nephews and the general population were often rendered speechless when confronted with Rick's intellect and wit. Rick loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He was genuine and loyal to a fault and was not afraid to speak his mind for those he loved and what he believed in. He loved his family and stayed close with many of his friends from school and around the world. Rick was one of a kind, can never be replaced and will be dearly missed. A celebration of his life is pending.
