RICHARD THOMMES "Remembering Richard." Richard Ebarle Thommes, best known as "Poppy" or "Boy," of Las Vegas, joined our Heavenly Father peacefully July 20, 2014. He was born Oct. 31, 1948, at Medina, Philippines. He was born to Araceli Ebarle of Medina, Philippines and Richard L. Thommes of Lastrup, Minnesota and was one of six children. Richard was a military veteran, serving nine years in the U.S. Army as a crew chief and a forward observer. His duty stations included Ft. Lewis, Wash., Wurzberg, Germany and Wheeler Air Force Base, Hawaii. He settled in Hawaii, where he worked for many years as a car salesman and finance manager and then as a real estate agent in his later life. Richard was a simple, gentle, easygoing and generous man with a jolly disposition. He enjoyed being part of and having a large family. He was happiest having the presence of many loved ones around him. He was fond of anything he could do with his family, traveling, sightseeing and being in the outdoors. Some of his favorite activities included fishing, tennis, golf, biking, and swimming. He enjoyed collecting seashells, military weapons and artifacts, as well as collecting model planes and cars. Richard relaxed by listening to music, playing his guitars, ukuleles, and harmonicas. He had many pets and shared his love of animals such as dogs, birds, fish and turtles with his children. Richard was endearing and good-humored. He loved spending long days at home, cooking, and sharing jokes and stories with his family. Richard is survived by his wife, of 24 years, Jeannette D. Thommes; sons, Carl, Julian and Ryan Thommes; daughter, Rhea Go-Coloma; son-in-law, Frank T. Coloma; and grandchildren, Ethan Ruben and Emilie Noelle Coloma. He is also survived by brothers, Harvey, Edward and Jack Thommes; sisters, Myrna Paredes and Lois Marie Lugod. He is missed by countless loved one and dear friends. A memorial tribute to honor and celebrate his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd N., Las Vegas, NV 89101.
