Ruby Latham, 89, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004. She was born April, 19, 1914 in Huntingburg, Ind., the oldest of eight children, who have preceded her in death. Ruby, who lived in Las Vegas for over 45 years was retied and best remembered as the deli manager for the Vegas Village stores, which closed in 1982. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Daylight chapter #30, for more than 70 years. Ruby spent many years doing volunteer work, including hospital and hospice in both Las Vegas and Florida. In 1957 her beloved husband, Lee Latham, who was a major-league baseball empire, died from complications from a baseball injury. Ruby never remarried. She had no children but was loved by relatives and many friends, young and old. Her life was centered on the Lord and how she could bring love and joy into the life of others. Ruby will be missed greatly by all that loved her. In Ruby's earlier years she sang and played the piano and organ, with two of her sisters. This trio performed in churches and Christian radio shoes and one season sang with the Billy Graham Evangelistic tour. Ruby is survived by her niece, Carolyn Goodnight of Texas. Viewing will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12. Services at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Bunker Chapel, performed by her church Pastor Darrel Adcock of Red Rock Baptist Church. Burial will be at Eden Vale Memorial Park.
