SALVATORE MERCANDANTE Loving father and devoted husband, Salvatore Valentine Mercadante, 88, of Las Vegas, who always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone, passed away peacefully, Dec. 3, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Pittsburgh, and was a 49-year resident of Nevada. Salvatore served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A retired carpenter, he was a member of Local Union 1780 the VFW, Moose Lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to play golf, bowl, hunt, fish and spend time with his family. Salvatore was preceded in death by his wife, of 38 years, Dorothy J. Mercandate. He is survived by his sons, David, Salvatore and Paul; daughter, Joan; grandsons, Salvatore, Anthony and Austin; and granddaughters, Holly and Angel. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 Lone Mountain Road.
