SANDRA LONG CLERKS Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Sandra Long Clerks, passed away Nov. 7, 2011. She was born May 4, 1936, in Longview, Texas, and was a 50-year resident of Las Vegas. After arriving in Las Vegas in 1961, Sandra immersed herself in the fields of government affairs, political campaigns, fund-raising and public relations. She was the regional representative for U.S. Congressman David Towell, organized news conferences for candidates and elected officials, including Vice President George H.W. Bush and then-Governor Ronald Reagan. She testified in the early 1980's to the President's Commission on the HIV epidemic. Sandra was executive director of Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN), development/information officer for American Red Cross and was southern area director for the American Cancer Society. She organized and/or was actively involved in the political campaigns of over a dozen candidates, including Senator Paul Laxalt, Senator Howard Cannon, Governor Bob Miller and many others. She also chaired and was a guest speaker at fund raising events for Opportunity Village, Lighthouse Compassionate Care and more. She is survived by her husband, Larry; brother, Kirk; sons, Jack (Nancy) Long and Richard (Sandy) Long; grandchildren, Richie (Samantha) Long, Emalee Long and Jack Long; and great-grandchildren, Cassie, Caitlynn, Zachary and Kylie. No services are scheduled.
