Shirley Ann Bray, 74, of Las Vegas, went to be with the Lord May 1, 2013. She was born April 28, 1939, in Albany, Calif., and was a nine-year resident of Nevada. She was a staff sergeant E6 in the U.S. Marine Corps for nine years during the Vietnam War, and was a retired schoolteacher. After being discharged, she attended the University of Montana and subsequently taught school for 23 years at the Mountain View School in Helena, Mont. She was twice-nominated for teacher of the year in Montana. Her love for children led her to volunteer work in church nurseries at 1st Assembly of God in Helena and Trinity Life Center in Las Vegas, where she became known as "the baby whisperer" for her ability to quiet babies and get them to sleep. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jouett Philip and Edith Bray; brothers, Philip Eugene Bray and Clark Rodney Bray; and nephew, Shawn Bray. She is survived by her sisters, Maureen Bray of Buckley, Wash. and Jouleen (Alfred) Cotton of Las Vegas; nephew, Kevin (Anna) Cotton of Las Vegas; great-nephew, Alexander of Las Vegas; and niece, Diana Carlstad of Great Falls, Mont. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 11, at Trinity Life Center, 1000 E. St. Louis Ave. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Glacier Bible Camp in Montana, and indicate "in memory of Shirley."
