SPURGEON DANIELS SR. Spurgeon "S.W." Daniels Sr., 87, of Las Vegas, passed away April 15, 2011, at UMC after complications from heart surgery. He was born March 14, 1925, in Donner, La., and was a 60-year resident of Nevada. He graduated from Southern University. SW served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a Las Vegas community activist and retired truck driver from the Southern Nevada Teamsters Local #613. He was a member of the Meadow Shriner's Club and a Mason at St. Marks Lodge, #1, Las Vegas FA&M. Active in many social and civic causes, he worked tirelessly on many political campaigns in Las Vegas. SW coached little league baseball, football and basketball. He loved sports and loved teaching children about sports. He is survived by his loving wife, of 58 years, Ruth L. Burns Daniels; son, Spurgeon Daniels Jr.; granddaughter, Veronica Daniels; great-granddaughter, Antrese Jamerson; several nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends. Visitation will be 9:30-10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, with funeral Mass following, both at St. James Catholic Church, 1920 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. Burial will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. in Boulder City.
