Stephanie R. Gurschke

March 7, 1934 — May 12, 2015

Stephanie Roselle (Foster) Gurschke, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2015.  Stephanie was born on March 7, 1934 on the Island of Jersey, in the Channel Islands.  Stephanie is preceded in death by both parents; her brothers, Frank and Norman; her sister, Madge; her daughter, Mary Ann; her son-in-law, John Spenk; and her nephew, Tony Foster.  Stephanie is survived by her daughters, Karen James, Sandra Hubbard, Donna Spenk, and Michelle Gurschke; her son, Steve Gurschke; her sisters’ in law, Doreen Foster and Madeline Foster; her grandchildren, Justin, Chase, Emily, and Jonathan; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kiara, and Ashlyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephanie was born on the Jersey Islands and was a survivor of the Channel Island Deportations that took place during World War II.  She and her family were deported to prison camps in Germany, lived in camps for approximately four years, and upon their release, returned back to Jersey.  Following her father’s death, the family moved to South Africa, where Stephanie completed her nursing degree.

Stephanie moved to the United States of America in the 1950s and worked as a surgical nurse.  She married, had four children, and with her husband and children, lived in Venezuela and Iran from 1960 through 1974.  In 1985, Stephanie married Kenneth Gurschke, and for many years they traveled across the USA in their 5th wheel travel trailer.  Stephanie and Kenneth lived in New Mexico for approximately 15 years, and only recently moved back to their hometown of Las Vegas.

Stephanie enjoyed traveling, painting, gardening, and making crafts.  She was an exceptional bead-artist and an avid reader.  Her wish was that we would read the “Mrs. Polifax” series by Dorothy Gilman, and think of her.

A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be held at a future date, when all of the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be able to attend.
