With great sorrow, we share the passing of our husband and father, Theron Lane Swainston, Jr. We will miss his love, wisdom, and humor. One hundred and three Swainstons have had the honor of calling him father, grandfather, or great-grandfather during his 92 years.
Born on a dairy farm in Whitney, Idaho, in 1930, Theron served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Great Britain and, upon his return home, married Lorna Swainston, his devoted wife of 69 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, primarily in the Philippines. After his service, he returned home, finished his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Utah State University, and later a Ph.D. at USC.
Theron was an educator and administrator in the Clark County School District for 30 years, teaching high school government and history classes. He eventually became vice-principal, then principal at Western High School. Dad later became the CCSD Associate Superintendent of Instruction until he retired in 1986 to work in Saudi Arabia, where he administrated Aramco’s education system. He undertook all of his life’s adventures with Lorna at his side and raised seven children simultaneously.
Theron was also a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. He held many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch, and in the Las Vegas Temple Presidency. He also served a second mission with Lorna to Palmyra, New York.
Theron’s funeral will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 375 N Hollywood Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89110. His Burial will take place in Whitney, Idaho, on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
