Thomas Jerry Brascia, a long-time Las Vegas resident, passed away Dec. 5, 2012, quietly, surrounded by close family and friends at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas. Thomas was born April 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to parents, Concetta and Michele, by a midwife. One of eight children, the family moved to Los Angeles shortly after Thomas's birth. Thomas joined the U.S. Army in 1951, and served in combat during the Korean War, which remained an important, very proud part of his life. Upon entering the workforce after serving his country, Thomas moved to Las Vegas, where he met Charlotte Johnson and the two were quickly married. Together, they had four sons. Thomas and Charlotte had a zest and drive for life which gave them the inclination to have a large family. Charlotte was an airline stewardess and then hostess at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino, where she met Thomas who opened up the same casino as a craps dealer. Thomas spent approximately 15 years as a manager at Caesar's Palace. The two spent a wonderful life devoted to one another and their four children, along with many cousins whom they were very close to. The family vacationed in Del Mar and later Imperial Beach, Calif. They loved playing the horses, going to jai alai games and pitching around the golf course, as well as attending any pro sports throughout southern California. Long-time partners and owners of Charlotte's Ice Cream Parlor in the El Cortez Hotel in Las Vegas, Thomas and Charlotte retired and enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with all the family. They would invite strangers to spend the night - which would turn into weeks. He touched the lives of many and will be missed and cherished by all who knew them. Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Michele Brascia; mother, Concetta Avento Brascia; his beloved wife, Charlotte Brascia, of 49 years of marriage; and granddaughter, Stephanie Brascia. He is survived by his four sons, Stephen Brascia, Tara Brascia, Michael Brascia and wife, Debby, Peter Brascia and wife, Meschell, and Arthur Brascia and wife, Valerie; three brothers, Jerry and wife, Joan, Pete and wife, Roxy, and Michael; and three nieces, Kristin Williams, Alison Mark and Marguerite Josefsohn. He also left many grandchildren, Tommy, Caroline, Christina, Anna, Allie, Sam, Meghan, Charlotte, Mia, Tommy, Nick, Pete, Jack, Chris, Ashley and Kate; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Capri. Services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Thomas's name to the www.WoundedWarriorProject.org
