Thomas Allen Nesbit, Jr., 35 passed away February 12, 2014 at his residence in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born in 1978 in Unio County, NC. to Thomas (Tommy) and Iris Nesbit. After graduating from Parkwood High School and the University of North Carolina Charlotte, he earned a Ph. D in religious studies and literature from Boston University. While in college he also studied abroad and spent a lot of time in Europe, later becoming a Junior Visiting Fellow at the Institu fur die Wissenschaften vom Menschen in Vienna and subsequently serving as a Visiting Professor of English and American Studies at Charles University in Prague. Always an authority on author Henry Miller, Thomas' first book, Henry Miller and religion was published in 2007. Most recently he taught English at Southern Nevada Community College. Thomas supported 826 National a non-profit nationwide organization that teaches creative writing to children and encourages them to publish. Survivors include his parents. Thomas (Tommy) and Iris Nesbit, spousal companion Kristina Amerson, half-sisters Karen Nesbit Calder, Lisa Helms McWaters, half-brother Eric Toblas Helms and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Community Lutheran Church, Las Vegas, at 11:00 AM on February 22. Bunkers Eden Vale Mortuary in Las Vegas is in charge of funeral arrangements.
