Verda Hunt Michael, 92, passed away Feb. 19, 2012 at her home, in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Fruitland, N.M., the daughter of Jefferson and Mabel Agnes Willis Hunt. Her ancestral families were instrumental in settling Utah, Nevada, and California. At age 16, she came to the Las Vegas Valley, where she has lived ever since, except for a six-year period during World War II (1941-1947). She was a beacon of love who was filled with an inimitable wit and a passionate vigor for life. She will be missed. Verda was number 13 of 14 children, and the last to survive. Besides her four children, she mothered four generations of children in her own family, and multitudes of her nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighbors. She loved them all and kept them close. She led a thoroughly active life, as anyone who saw her gardening can attest. She was in the PTA when her children were in school and served all offices. She found her calling in teaching the 10-11 year old boys at church, preparing them for scouting and advancement in their faith. She served her church and community in many other capacities, but this one was her favorite. In 1937, she married Charles B. "Mike" Michael, who preceded her in death. Her son, Bruce Kenneth "Kenny" also preceded her. Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn (Don) Hinze of Joplin, Mo., and Judy (Steve) McNair of Las Vegas; her son, Charles (Irma) Michael of North Las Vegas; her daughter-in-law, Mary Michael of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Servcies will be held at Meadows LDS First Ward chapel at Saylor Way & Carl, Friday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N. Thursday, Feb. 23, 4-8 p.m. and at the church from 11:30-12:30p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, 7251 Lone Mountain Road, 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25.
