Vilate Homer

Vilate Tanner Webb Homer, 94, born May 20, 1918, in Heyburn, Idaho, passed away peacefully at her Henderson home Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013. Married to Charles Henry Webb (divorced) and later married William Desmond Homer (divorced). Vilate was the beloved mother of five children; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Vilate began working for Hershel Trumbo at the Henderson Telephone Company in 1952. Later the company was sold to Continental Telephone of Nevada and Vilate retired from Continental after 25 years of service as a night operator. Vilate was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as a secretary in the Lake Mead Stake Primary, a Top Pilot teacher, a Cub Scout, and MIA leader. She spent 17 years serving in the name extraction program for the LDS church, where she extracted 115,515 Spanish records with great accuracy. Vilate enjoyed picnics, barbeques, family outings and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her much joy. Vilate loved learning about, sharing and writing her family history and made several family books. Vilate spent many hours crocheting numerous hats and afghans for the LDS Humanitarian Project. Vilate is survived by her only living sibling, Mildred Stimpson of Hansen, Idaho; five children, Charlene Giguiere of Henderson, Warren (Doretta) Webb of Thayne, Wyo., Earl Webb of Pahrump, Robert (Donna) Homer of Emery, Utah, and Lee (Maria) of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen Emery and Levee Vilate (Hjorth) Tanner; siblings, infant twins, William and Ethel, Wayne, Floyd Tanner, Mae Wilson, and Kenneth and Glenn Tanner; granddaughter, Amber Denise Homer; and daughter-in-law, Jannette Webb. Viewing will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, with funeral services at 4 p.m., in the LDS Chapel at 303 S. Cholla St., Henderson. Bunkers Mortuary of Las Vegas is handling arrangements.
