Virginia Vela was born in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico, December 5th, 1929. She was the fourth child of nine, raised in Apizaco, Tlaxcala, Mexico. She met her husband Sixto on the pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Sixto and Virginia were married on January 1, 1948. Their first six children were born in Mexico.
On May 17th, 1959 Virginia arrived with her six children joining her husband in North Las Vegas. The last three children were born in Southern Nevada.
Sixto and Virginia were founding parishioners of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in North Las Vegas, where Virginia was a lector, and a Eucharistic Minister. Virginia was a founding member of the Guadalupana Society at St. Christopher's, a member of Church Women United, and the Catholic Daughters of America. Virginia and Sixto were part of the Charismatic renewal for over 45 years and founders of the Living Waters Prayer Group.
After moving to Campbell Drive, Virginia and Sixto were active parishoners at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic church. Virginia was a parishioner there for 31 years and an active member of the Miracles of Praise Charismatic prayer group.
She is survived by seven of her nine children: Alfonso (Delia); Fernando (Lucy); Virginia, dec. (José); Alma, dec.; Rosy (Roger); Juan Gerardo; Anthony; Lucy; David: twenty grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial at Noon at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive, Thursday, February 3rd, rosary immediately preceding at 11 a.m.
