Chun Cha passed on March 18, 2023, in Las Vegas, NV after a short illness. She was born on January 21, 1940, in Tokyo, Japan, and was the eldest daughter of father Hak O Yi and mother Mal Nam Yi. Her family moved to the Hap Chon area in the south of Korea in 1946 and later settled in Seoul, where they ran a small business.
Chun Cha got married in 1968 and lived in different states including Illinois, Colorado, and Utah before establishing permanent residence in Las Vegas in 1979. She worked in food services at Hill AFB, Utah, and also worked for twenty-three years at the Flamingo Hilton on the strip. She was an active member of the Culinary Union and retired in 2002.
Chun Cha was involved in the Korea Buddhist community and helped establish temples in Las Vegas and California. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, David; daughter Cristine, and sons James and John; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral services for Chun Cha will be held on Friday, March 24, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bunkers Mortuary on Las Vegas Blvd N. The burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens Memorial Park on West Lone Mountain Road.
