Paul Quam Obituary

Paul Quam, 85, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2020 at Desert Springs Senior Living in Las Vegas, NV. He was born on Oct. 16, 1934 in Cherry Grove township in rural Kenyon, Minnesota to Alfred Sr. and Mildred (Myran) Quam, growing up on the family dairy farm.

Paul attended a country school in rural Goodhue County and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1952.
He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in Oct , 1954 and served 4 years. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Paul married Nobuko(Paula) Ogawa in Vokuska, Japan on Feb 12, 1958. They resided in Minnesota while Paul attended and graduated with a B. S. Degree in Education in June 1963 from Winona State College, Winona, Mn.

Paul's teaching career began in Granton Public Schools in Granton, Wisconsin, culminating in the Michigan Public Schools System in 1997. Paul taught physical Ed., coached various sports teams, and taught Driver's Ed. to students and adults.
Mr. Quam was an inspiration to his teaching staff and students. He was consistently pleasant and sported a kind manner of dealing with his students.

Retirement followed Paul's thirty-three years of teaching. He and his wife moved to North Las Vegas where Paul continued his active life of running. He earned many ribbons (medals) for various Track-and-Field events, his last at the Las Vegas Senior Olympics at UNLV in 2016. His impressive collection of medals span from 1981-2016. In 2019 Paul was named to the KW Hall of Fame as a member of the 1950 Kenyon Vikings Football team.
Paul also had a passion for gardening, being proud of his strawberry and grape harvest. He enjoyed beautifying and working in his yard.
He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church (Las Vegas), serving on the finance committee, attending worship and Bible study for many years, and sharing his love of running and PE with everyone.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Paula; his parents; two brothers, Alfred Jr. and Myron; a brother-in- law, Jim Haugen; two sisters, Reone Broulik and Alice Quaale, and one niece, Karen Quam, nephew Richard Haugen.

Paul is survived by five brothers: Frank( Audrey) of Janesville, Mn, John (Birgit) of Bradenton, FL, Gary (Judy) and Dan (Shari) of Kenyon, Mn, and Dale (Pam) of Apple Valley, Mn.; three sisters: Donna Haugen of Owatonna, Mn, Sandra Harris (Kendall) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Christie Pederson ( Gary) of Peachtree City, Ga; brother-in-laws, Luke Broulik, Blooming Prairie Mn.,and Jim Quaale, Kenyon, Mn. ; sister-in-laws, Erna Quam, Kenyon, Mn, and Edna Quam, Wanamingo, Mn. Paul is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Burial interment at Bunker's Memorial Gardens, N. Las Vegas, has been postponed til a later date.
